how it can be possible to study for surgery in the 4th yr

it is challenging to finde an adequate refrence to study from in surgery ...it is a common problem for all .....


but as a 4th yr student focus on Brows...spending much time in reading it ,is never been a waste .most of the MCQs in the mid term and the final were from it...

for the esophagus, upper GI bleeding ,pancreas,gallbladder,,jaundice, thyroid, hernias from scott...

some would advise u to study from mount reid hand book...but I blieve it bit of advance...language is deficult also ...it is mainly for residents

for appendicitis it is good in scott but u need also to read it from Dr.Ahmad lecture...he gave us once a great lecture about it so look for it.

colorectal diseases are better to be read from Baily & love

talking about the results of the mid-course exam doctors

u could imagine that ,,,, only 6 of 62 !!! have failed ?:?:

nope 6 only have passed !:O:

really nobody know ,,, what is going on ?

are we soooo bad ? we have asked .

really most of the student are deeply depresed

and pliiz pray for us .... students really want to pass

but hey ... we are not afraid we gonna pass iam sure :J:

It is really a huge number, but for now do not worry u & your

colleague and try to discover what & where is the problem

and try to solve it or u talk to your doctors and discuss the

problem with them

The final exam will be INSHALLA more easy especially if it is on

OSQE exam, the stations will be reasonable and u will got an

extra marks

just keep in reading & study hard

again, the same things, browse browse & browse then of course

do not forget your major lectures , try to concentrate on the

lectures because most of the doctors put an MCQs from what

they talk or what they stress on it usually

Dr.redaa I really striked about this news .this huge number means that it is multifactorial case lead to this result.
any way it is not the final ,it shoud'nt be called failure or described as non passing an exam....it just an alarm , to direct us and to give us an painful shock or idea about what kinde of examinations r waiting for us.so let's make it as charger for ..any for now theire should'nt be much of time is wasted on thinkig about what was wrong, because u may found any ,have a good talk with u teachers if they can.

the big hope is for the OSCE so coninue clerking patients every day take a case read about it follow it on the next day see what was the plan what was the investigations how to interpretate them ask questions how to do so...

every day do physical exam ( abdomin diabetic foot ,hernia ,lumpa ..so on ) to be familiar with everything because DURING THE EXAM NOTHING CAN SAVE AS WAHT U USE TO DO AND THAT BECAME AS A HABBIT

always i consider the med term exams as a test for my knowledge only to see where is the defect in my study ...
i always make it as a test for me to see how much hard i have to do ..

consider it like this and try to fill the gab

& try to take it easy
dont be suppress or depress
study hard and at the end everything from Allah not from them

and as the doctorat said
concentrate on your browse & lectures and if u can mount reid ..

i think the final will be much easier ....just concentrate on your study

I just wanna add a small comment about what we felt after our exam, and then after our wonderful results.

ALL of US feel that everything we did, we studied, we attended, was NOTHING. No affects of the reading , particepating strongly in the bedsides... etc. we can we do more?? it is strongly depressing, for all of the group. I strongly agree that it was multifactorial and needs more attension.

I hope we can get back to study well coz we spent 1 week with depression and no reading, and there is only one week left for us for the final exams.

May ALLAH help us all.

By the way; Congratulations Dr.wrood2004, dr_perfecta, and MAJ for your graduation and being our 1st female group graduationg, wishing you the best INSHALLAH.

I wanna add a small advice before entering the MCQs examinations.

Try to buy some books of MCQs and solve them 2 or 3 days befor the exam. it is really usefull in making you read and understand the MCQs faster and know the triks in them. for sure you need to be already studied the course.

well it is just an advice that I felt it was usefull espicially in surgery.

I was sixth year when it was established

I was studying for final exam of Medicine

Any way , I wanted to refresh it again

Because a lot of 4th year students nowadays are confusing !!

And a lot of questions they are asking regarding surgery

Which one ? From where and what is the best to study surgery from ?


And from our very little experience , I can insist on what others they have been said it above ,

I think the MCQs books to read from are very effective to learn how to answer a question >>

Believe me , this is very very effective >> and the more you are reading , the best the chance is to open your mind how to answer such a question ..


I`ll tell you one thing , may be this is:MM: the madness of surgery >>

Me and one of my colleague , after each surgical exam even if it is the final one and there is nothing behind it ( i.e tomorrow is the first day of vacation ) :LL: , we were setting together and starting to squeeze and squeeze our minds for remembering the 60 MCQs questions until we get them whole , then we are opening the whole books and lectures searching about the correct answer , and the questions that we can not remember it at that time , and failed to collect them , we where going to our home and continue discussing it by phone until we get them whole but sometimes we can`t find the corrected answer ,

And by this way we were learning from our mistakes , actually , sometimes they are a lot and depressive but at the end at least we know that what type of questions that our staff doctors are likely to put them in the next exam and how are they thinking >> and they may do and repeat the same questions ..


I think a lot of you doing the same thing , isn`t it ?

By the way , this method of learning is in Kinda library .. :J:

أن الأطباء لدينا هم من مدارس مختلفة
كتبهم وطريقة قرائاتهم وتفكيرهم متعددة
حسب الكتاب الذي يرتاحون إليه
حتى أن بعضهم تجدهم يختارون كل محاضرة من كتاب
ولكن نهاية كل الطرق ستؤدي إلى روما

دعني أقول لك شيئا
من خبرتي البسيطة في طريقة المذاكرة
أنني بعدما آخذ المحاضرة مع الدكتور
اذهب إلى تصفح جميع الكتب التي لدي
ومن ثم أرى أيها أقرب إلى نفسي وأريح لي في طريقة المذاكرة
وأقرب إلى ما يدرس إلي من قبل الدكاترة
ومن ثم أبدأ المذاكرة

لكن هناك كتب كبيرة جدا
برأيي صراحة أن لا تكون ضمن المصادر المقترحة
أو أن تكون فقط كمصدر ثانوي للأبحاث وزيادة المعلومات فقط
أما المذاكرة منه فلا طبعا

مثلا
بيلي آند لف
كوشيري
شوارتس

لا ينصح أبدا بالمذاكرة منها
حتى أن أحد أعضاء هيئة التدريس قد قال لنا ذات مرة
ما تحتاجونه فقط هو اللكتشر نوتس لمستواكم الدراسي

إضافة يا دكتور أنه إن كانت لديك محاضرة جيدة جدا
أعطيت لكم من قبل الدكتور
حينها لا داعي لأن أذهب واشتت عقلي بين هذا وذاك
لماذا ؟
بعض الأطباء يضعو أسئلتهم مما يلقونه في المحاضرة ومن المصدر الذي قرأوه منه
فإذا كانت المحاضرة كافية والمعلومات مستوفية فلماذا أشتت نفسي إذا ؟

لذا أخي الكريم
إن كنت بالسنة الرابعة
فبراوز لابد منه

والثيوري كما قلت لك
هذا ما كنا نفعله أنا ومن معي
وكان يجدي معنا اكلينيكيا والحمد لله

فانصحك بالاطلاع على اسئلة الاعوام السابقة
إضافة إلى مذاكرتكم
فقط لأخذ فكرة عنها

الشيء الآخر
وهذا قد اقترحناه ذات مرة على أحد أعضاء هيئة التدريس
وهو كتابة المصدر المناسب للموضوع للمذاكرة منه من قبل منسق المادة
بالاجتماع مع جميع أعضاء هيئة التدريس
بدلا من التشتت هذا
فالطالب في هذه المرحلة لا يزال ليست لديه القدرة على معرفة الأنسب
حتى ينتهي من تلك السنة الدراسية
أراه في مصلحة الطالب بشكل كبير
