This what H@SSOOM recommended me to explain it to all members to turn to advantage of Palm.

OK

I'll go through on the Palm in two subject:

what's a palm?
&
how does it work?

what's a palm?

Imagine a tiny servant, barely bigger than a deck of cards, who remembers everything: your brother-in-law's birthday, the time of your next dental appointment, what's on the day's to-do list. With the tap of a stylus, it'll show you your calendar, call up your shopping list, or remind you of a friend's phone number.

Do you carry a paper-based planner? At it's core, Palm is a planner replacement, tracking calendar, address book, expense record, notes and to-do list.

Palm adds networking functions to these core applications. You can download daily or weekly information from favorite Web sites or read and answer e-mail. Palm VII offers wireless connection to the Internet for e-mail and Web browsing.

Finally, there's the fun! Legions of dedicated Palm developers have created thousands of third-party add-in programs for Palm. On a diet? Track your Weight Watchers? 1-2-3 Success points on the Palm, or download one of many diet and exercise log programs. Specialty databases allow cataloging of collections and hobbies. Thousands of downloadable e-texts allow Palm owners to read entire books on the small screen, any time, any place. Games, information, and specialty programs make Palm a versatile delight.

how does it work?

Palm is a tiny, freestanding battery-powered computer. It uses Palm OS, a small, efficient operating system for Palm and Handspring devices. Palm PDAs contain up to 8 megs of memory. Information appears in the small LCD screen on the front of the Palm. Depending on model, Palm PDAs may use alkaline or rechargeable batteries.

Palm is designed to communicate with a personal computer through a process called Hot Sync?. To Hot Sync?, the Palm is placed in a small cradle which attaches to the PC at a serial port. Synchronizing data between Palm and PC is as simple as pushing a button.

Once installed on the computer, Palm users have access to the Palm Desktop, a full-featured PIM (personal information manager). Palm Desktop software displays the Palm's Date Book, Address Book, and To-Do list entries. Users may access notes in the Memo Pad, or synchronize expense information with an Excel spreadsheet.

Information can be entered into the Palm in several ways. Using Graffiti handwriting recognition software, Palm users can write directly into the Palm, or they may tap data using the Palm's built-in virtual keyboard.

Information may also be entered via the PC, by typing or importing it into Palm Desktop software. The data is shared with the Palm through the Hot Sync? process. Users can buy special Palm keyboards that permit direct data entry into the Palm unit. Finally, most Palm versions include an IRD port, or infrared transceiver port, which allow two Palm users to exchange data, and permits information to be sent directly to computers equipped with an IRD port.
