As a Prophylaxis treatment

Preventive you know , to prevent the disease occuring

I am really thinking that , this is the answer

asslamu alaykum

thank you everyone especially Love 4 Life for this intresting discussion

as for your Q doctor Love 4 Life is a very common question and it is great that you are looking for an answer because by this way we all be able to learn from each oyher and in case od your Q avoiding a common mistake for a common Q

back to the Q ....vaccinations rule in SCD is very cruciate....that because Prevention of infection improves chances of survival in SCD that because Infection is a major complication of sickle cell disease so we need to prevent infection by all means ,

their infection susceptibility results from two problems:
1-splenic malfunction (auto-splenectomy) that results from the blocking of the lood flow in the speen due to the sickling
2-and the second cause is the failure to make specific IgG antibodies to polysaccharide antigens.

and due to those 2 reasons there is no opsonization the process by which the body become use in fighting the organisms you mentioned

and for those 2 problem we have Two prevention strategies are recommended: vaccination and prophylactic penicillin.

the use of a pneumococcal vaccine at age 2 years, with a booster dose at age 5 years, greatly reduces the frequency of infections with S. pneumoniae which the single most common cause of death in children
with SCD .

as for the prophylactic penicillin it should be started as early as possible.

the management of SCD pt should start with an early diagnosis, preferably in the newborn period, and the use of penicillin prophylaxis, routine and special vaccination and folic acid supplementation. also it is includes the treatment of complications often includes antibiotics, pain management, intravenous fluids, blood transfusion, and surgery all backed by psychological support.

in another words the patients are best managed in a comprehensive multi-disciplinary program of care.

finally thank you again and I hope you finde what you r looking for......
