FibroTest-ActiTestTM (FT/AT) is a non-invasive alternative to liver biopsy which has been
clinically validated for patients with chronic hepatitis (B and C), alcoholic liver disease
(ALD) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). It uses an algorithm to combine the
results of serum tests of α2-macroglobulin, haptoglobin, apolipoprotien A1, total bilirubin,
gamma glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) to assess the level
of fibrosis and necro-inflammatory activity. There are several cross-sectional, retrospective
and prospective studies assessing the accuracy of FT/AT compared to liver biopsy. Trial
results support FT/AT as an alternative or complement to liver biopsy.
